Petroleum and/or natural gas, are sources of raw materials for the petrochemical industry, which are transferred to the oil refineries. The oil refineries convert the crude oil, through both chemical and physical processes, to a variety of products, including naphtha, which is used as a key raw material in the production of petrochemical products. The naphtha undergoes catalytic cracking, in which two heavy molecules are transformed into lighter molecules, such as ethylene, propylene and benzene. These products are the basic raw materials for the petrochemical industry.
